Binny's Body Bagged in Pak-land firefight
2011-05-02
WASHINGTON | Mon May 2, 2011 12:00am EDT - Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed Sunday in a firefight with U.S. forces in Pakistan and his body was recovered, President Barack Obama announced Sunday.

"Justice has been done," Obama said in a dramatic, late-night White House speech announcing the death of the elusive mastermind of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the New York and Washington.

Obama said U.S. forces led the operation that killed bin Laden. No Americans were killed in the operation and they took care to avoid civilian casualties, he said.

"The United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda and a terrorist who is responsible for the murder of thousands of men, women and children," Obama said.

A crowd gathered outside the White House to celebrate, chanting, "USA, USA."

U.S. officials said that after searching in vain for the al Qaeda leader since he disappeared in Afghanistan in late 2001, the Saudi-born extremist was killed in the Pakistani town of Abbotabad and his body recovered. Having the body may help convince any doubters that bin Laden is really dead.

#11  There's a rumour that there were a great many tunnels running between the house and the military academy.

#9  I have been waiting many years to see these headlines. A great feeling.

Note on google maps that the compound is also close to Margis Arif Hospital. Previously specualtaion was that Osama needed routine medical care.

#6  Egypt News story claims: Osama bin Laden was holed up in a two-story house 100 yards from a Pakistani military academy when four helicopters carrying US anti-terror forces swooped in the early morning hours of Monday and killed him.

#5  Note the bullet through the eye!

Let's hide this behind a link, shall we? Not really a suitable image for the women and kiddies.

#4  Pakistan needs to be dismembered and turned back to a simple agrarian tribal entity. No airports, electricity, diesel fuel. They enabled the Taliban who allowed Binny and Co to set up a base in Afghanistan.

And no cricket, either.

#3  Next up: we give some serious thought to paying Pakistan back for screwing with us like this. (Yeah, yeah: I know it's all very complex. Big picture, blah, blah, blah. So what?)

What does India need these days? Aircraft carriers? Spacecraft? F-16s?
