| #3 Hello Lumpy. This is a well-researched, extremely well put-together piece of journalism. It traces people's stories that were swept under the carpet and ignored by successive Australian governments. This is what happens when you ingest radioactive particles, and are exposed to gamma radiation. Skin cancer is caused by UV radiation: ultra-violet radiation. It is different to penetrating gamma radiation. Gamma radiation passes through your body. UV radiation is stopped at your skin. Sunscreen works as it contains (usually) zinc particles which deflect the UV rays. Only lead, about a metre thick, stops gamma rays. |

| #2 Australia also has extremely high rates of skin cancer, with all the climate change pseudoscientists blaming the ozone hole on CO2 emissions and prompting the naked Meghan McCain ads for sunscreen, but this sounds a more likely cause to me. Sunscreen blocks Vit. D, but neither protect against radiation. |

| #1 This is relevant now for those exposed to radiation from the Fukushima disaster. It also puts the lie to official figures from Chernobyl. Third generation offspring of the men at Maralinga suffer brain tumours, genetic deformities and other horrors. The men passed on chromosomal damage without even knowing it. A real tragedy. |
