In fact, their system is regarded as the gold standard of newspapers, and is only beaten by some of the more prestigious academic journals. But, with international stories, it is a different playbook entirely. This is less for tabloid reasons than for the wildly different libel standards. For example, England's nonsensical libel standard based on offense, not truth; and in other Euro states that have put politicians off limits for criticism, such as Germany. |
