A senior Yemeni official in Riyadh said Saleh had developed a problem with his throat, but would not elaborate beyond describing the president's condition as "tragic." The official asked not be named because of the sensitive nature of the information.

Oh, it could be worse: the surgeons might have had a 'therapeutic mis-adventure' when doing the trach. It happens and it's really not fun at all to be in a situation in which, absolutely needing to secure the airway, you can't secure the airway. Or he could have had a throat injury: a tracheal laceration from another tiny, insignificant wood splinter. Or an injury to a major vessel from said splinter. Or perhaps a neck catheter had a problem. Dear, dear... |
