2011-07-08 |
[Al Jazeera] Yemeni television is airing a recorded speech by President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh![]() ... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower... Saleh has not appeared in public after he was maimed in a kaboom at his palace last month. He has been in neighbouring Soddy Arabia since then undergoing treatment. Saleh has been hanging on to power despite international pressure and six months of protests against his 33-year old rule. The speech was recorded in Riyadh. Late last month, Deputy Information Minister Abdo al-Janadi told AFP news agency that a team from Yemeni television had headed to Riyadh to interview Saleh and that it would be aired after June 30. "In this interview, Saleh will address the Yemeni people to reassure them about his health," Janadi said. |
