The Grand Turk
Turkish general arrested over coup plot
2011-09-06
[Iran Press TV] A Turkish court has arrested and jailed the head of the intelligence department of the Turkish armed forces, General Ismail Hakki Pekin, over an alleged plot to overthrow the government.
They're going to end up with nothing higher than a colonel if they keep this up. This could prove amusing, for Turkey-watchers at least, given the historical proclivities of colonels in the Third and Fourth worlds.

#5  Well, the Turks do have a precedent to follow.

#4  Usually the sergeants organize coups against the regimes put in place by successful coups by captains or colonels. Well, semi-successful. It's usually a sign that the chain of command has dissolved entirely in the acid bath of serial military insurrection.

I'm not sure I've seen an example where the civilian government successfully liquidates the entire chain of command in fear of a military coup. Unless you count the Stalinist great purges - and say what you will about the AKP, they haven't been shooting their officers wholesale, not yet anyways.

#3  Sergeants organizing coups would make them an African country.

#1  Try Sergeant. The 38 of high level officers have just resigned. More than 1000 of Military leaders are in jail. Does anyone need to refute me that Turkey is now beyond the help of NATO, speak up now.

This is the end of our engagement, kill it before it becomes too stupid to hold.
