S Sudan issues own currency |

[Al Jazeera] The world's newest nation, South Sudan, has issued its own currency - the South Sudanese pound. But officials now have to figure out what to do with close to $1bn worth of old currency notes, used before Sudan was split into two countries. They had hoped the Khartoum government would take back the old notes and give them the equivalent in US dollars, but when South Sudan launched its new currency in July, Sudan announced it would do the same a week later. |
