64-year-old John Lechner was arrested last week and faces numerous charges from the find.

An officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says 4,150 pounds of ammonium nitrate/fuel oil was recovered.

Lechner claims he used the explosives for "commercial enterprises" like mining.

He is charged with possessing explosives while facing other charges.

#4  Maybe the guy just wanted to start his own gravel mine. Or maybe he just wanted to get the squirrels of his lawn - once and for all.

#3  Seems like there are a lot of moving parts in this case. The credibility of the ATF isn't so good lately.

#1  Just prior to this arrest he had been in court on state charges: According to court documents Lechner was arraigned on Sept. 13 in Chippewa County Circuit Court and charged with felony charges of false report of a felony, false pretenses and assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer.

In addition, Lechner has been charged with being a habitual offender.

"Under the U.S. code if you've got pending charges you can't possess explosives," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Maarten Vermaat.
