Hugo Chavez in hospital 'for kidney failure'
2011-09-29
[Telegraph UK] The leftist, staunchly anti-US stalwart Chavez went into the Military Hospital in Caracas on Tuesday morning, the report on the newspaper's website said, citing anonymous sources with knowledge of the case.

"He was in fairly serious overall condition," a source told the Miami-based Spanish-language daily. "When he arrived, he was in quite serious shape and that is why he was brought in for emergency care."

Venezuela's Information Minister Andres Izarra appeared to deny the report in a posting on the micro-blogging website Twitter.

"Those who should be admitted are the journalists of the Nuevo Herald, except into a madhouse (instead of a hospital)," Izarra tweeted, without providing further details.

On Sunday, Chavez sought to assure Venezuelans he was healthy, telling them that cancer-fighting chemotherapy treatment has not left him with any debilitating side effects.

#13  JM I guess that Doctor is a nephrologist. He said that if its chemo the kidneys can recover possibly.

#7  Anonoymoose Hello. I forget your vast knowledge in the Medical field as well as the fringe elements. The ""psychic surgeon" specialist" hit the mark.
I actually didn't forget to be truthful. I just didn't remember.

#6  Dale: I think the shaman would send him to a "psychic surgeon" specialist, then get out of the country before Chavez pegged, figuring that as soon as Chavez cacks it, anyone involved with his health care are going to be tried as CIA agents.

#5  Just as bad as kidney failure, he may have aplastic anemia, which means his bone marrow is no longer producing, or not producing enough of the three blood cell types: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Untreated aplastic anemia is an illness that leads to rapid death, typically within six months.

If it is a more serious form, treatment would involve a bone marrow transplant, after strongly inhibiting the immune system. Probably not something to do if you have bad kidneys.

#3  Dale, more likely side effects of the chemo. They gave him something that nailed his kidneys. It happens...

#2  I'm surprised he hasn't nationalized some 'rich' fellow's kidney then to become another organ of the state.

#1  I have noticed his bloating for some time now. When he was on the balcony with his aid the last time. Should he go on dialysis he will be severely impaired. Most likely more stomach bloating. Then I'd bet diabetic either now or will be. Even for normally active people dialysis is a terrible drain on energy levels. He will still run for office if he is alive. Even from a wheelchair. I still believe he is a poor patient. Determined to eat or drink what he wants. Time to call in the shaman if they are brave enough.
