China will not support North Korea militarily in case of a conflict between North and South, according to a Chinese academic. Prof. Chu Shulong (55) of Tsinghua University was speaking at a seminar on Korea-China security strategy at the Seoul Press Center on Monday.
Chu said the Beijing-Pyongyang relationship is friendly and cooperative on the surface, but the truth is very different. "Chinese leaders, bureaucrats and citizens neither like nor support many North Korean policies and actions it has taken at home and abroad, including its development of missiles and nuclear weapons and its attacks on South Korea last year," he added. But he also cast doubt on the "strategic cooperative partnership" South Korea and China have declared. The two "don't have the same strategic concerns and understanding, even though they currently share some basic strategic interests."

Having to justify North Korea's actions is like having to justify the actions of a drunken, jobless, wife-beating younger brother. Nobody "likes or supports" that. |

| #8 Y'all are all thinking of new and exciting ways for China to benefit for having created and supported the totalitarian state of North Korea for the last sixty years. North Korea is their buffer state between them and a non-tribute-state of non-Han. If their government depopulates their country so that in the future it can be populated with Han, they think it's a feature, not a bug. And as long as it's bleeding S. Korea and the US more than it bleeds them, that's a feature too. |

| #6 Or in the alternative, take that 25 mile perimeter along the Yalu River in North Korea as part of 'historical lost Chinese territory', and establish the new border there. That would let the ChiComs establish an easily defended border with a bunch of useful mines, factories, and other facilities already in place. |

| #1 Whatever is a fruitless burden to the West is OK by the Chinese, I guess. Of course, the West continues to take this on. Voluntarily. Give the South Koreans nukes and be done with it. |
