| Iran claims to have captured 12 CIA spies |

| Iranian officials claimed a blow against US spying efforts on its nuclear programme and strategic industries after 12 CIA assets were captured by the regime and its Lebanese ally, Hizbollah. US officials acknowledged that its network targeting Iran had suffered a setback and expressed fears that its contacts would be executed by the regime. Heydar Moslehi, Iran's intelligence minister, said yesterday that the alleged spies worked at the highest levels of "major firms involved in oil, gas and nuclear industries" as the country . Parviz Sorouri, a member of parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy committee said the arrested spies were on a mission to cripple Iran in vital sectors with military and security links. This current announcement follows the unravelling by Lebanon's Hizbollah of a CIA spy ring included a network based in a Pizza Hut. Hassan Nasrallah, Hizbollah's leader, has admitted that at least two CIA spies had infiltrated the ranks of the organisation. The US Embassy in Lebanon officially denied the accusation but officials conceded that Hizbollah had subsequently methodically picked off CIA informants in recent months. |
