Retired Lt. Gen. Ric 'Dirty' Sanchez(D) Drops Out Of Texas Senate Race
2011-12-18
Retired Lt. Gen. Ric Sanchez, the sole major Democratic candidate in the race to replace Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, said Friday he is dropping out of the Texas race because of "pressing personal challenges" and a lack of funds.
He retired for the dual reason of the Abu Ghraib scandal, and the fact that he and J. Paul Bremer hated each other's guts.

#3  Sanchez is an American patriot, and the title of this post offends me. If I met him, I would shake his hand and thank him for his service.

Even so, I would not vote for him, because he does not represent me. But that does not make him a bad man. He is in my humble opinion a good man with whom I have honest disagreements. I wish him and his family well, and hope he finds useful work outside of politics.

#2  Bremer screwed up the entire pacification process in Iraq with his policies that gave the Iraqis the justifiable impression we were an occupation force. He never understood the Iraqis.

I'll qualify my own comment by saying that (unlike Mr. Clinton above), I've never been in the sandbox...my perspective comes from being an ex-squid semi obsessed with current events, politics and military history. That being said, I had the feeling as soon as the State Department hack Bremer was placed in charge, that everything was going to go to diaperfill in a big hurry. State was and is lousy with officials who wanted to sabotage our entire effort in Iraq.

#1  Anyone that Bremer hated gets my vote.

Bremer screwed up the entire pacification process in Iraq with his policies that gave the Iraqis the justifiable impression we were an occupation force. He never understood the Iraqis. He also froze out most of the Iraqi contractors that wanted to participate in the reconstruction. Had he done that, the unemployment rate would have been lower, the reconstruction would have accomplished more, and there would have been fewer Iraqis standing around to work for the Baathists who had money.
I was in Baghdad in 2004, I was told that an American contractor that could get some JV's with local contractors could get work and I would be welcomed with open arms by the CPA.
The freaking CPA would not even let me in the Green Zone until the US commerical officer in Baghdad intervened. Then no one in the CPA would meet with me, no one with the Corps or KBR would meet with me and I wasted a trip. The Iraqis I worked with were very very ANGRY with the CPA policies toward local contractors.
