| Militant ambush kills 6 Pakistani troops |

| [Iran PressTV] - At least six Pakistani paramilitary troops have been killed after gunmen attacked a check post in the troubled southwestern province of Balochistan. A dozen of militants attacked the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) post in the Dera Bugti district, situated about 400 kilometers (250 miles) southeast of the provincial capital Quetta, in the early hours of Thursday. "The attackers came before dawn and opened fire on the soldiers after encircling the check post. All six soldiers were killed on the spot," a senior security official said on condition of anonymity. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the act of terror. Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and associated groups have carried out numerous attacks on security forces as well as civilians and managed to spread their influence in various regions of the country despite frequent offensives by Pakistani government against them. Over 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2007, according to the Associated Press. Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan. Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country. |
