CAIRO: Egypt's ousted President Hosni Mubarak has turned down the chance to address the court on the last session before the verdict in his seven-month trial. He is accused of complicity in the killing of protesters during the uprising that overthrew him last year. More than 800 are reported to have died during the violence. "I have no comment. What the lawyer said is enough," Mubarak told the judge on Wednesday.
The trial could see the toppled ruler, his Interior Minister Habib Al-Adly and six security chiefs sent to the gallows if convicted of complicity in the deaths of peaceful protesters during the uprising that overthrew him a year ago. At the hearing, prosecutors told Judge Ahmed Refaat that the medical wing of CairoÂ’s Tora prison was ready to receive Mubarak, state television reported, following mounting calls to move him from hospital to prison. | ||
