Discussing the worsening human rights ...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedomat the convenience of the state... situation in Bahrain during its Universal Periodic Review in Geneva, the 47-member council called on Manama on Monday to improve its human rights record and put an end to suppression of the opposition. It also called for the retrial of opposition activists convicted in military courts, an investigation into torture reports and human rights violations, and punishment of the perpetrators. |
