| Two policemen killed in the Caucasus |

| Officials in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria in the North Caucasus have launched an investigation into a deadly attack on two policemen. One of the policemen died at the crime scene after an unknown group of armed people opened fire on him and his colleague in the republic's capital, Nalchik, on July 18. The second policeman died later in hospital of injuries sustained in the attack. The two policement were sent to Nalchik to round up suspects allegedly involved in an Islamic insurgents' attack on Nalchik in October, 2005. |
