| Khamenei tells Iran politicians to show more unity |

| Iran's supreme leader urged his country's politicians to show more unity as he warned the West that sanctions imposed over Tehran's disputed nuclear program would only make the government more determined to pursue it, Iranian media reported. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who is unelected and holds ultimate authority over Iran's foreign policy and nuclear program, told Iranian officials not to bicker publicly. Khamenei said the sanctions hurt the West more than Iran, pointing especially to the euro zone crisis. Three rounds of negotiations this year between Iran and major world powers have ended without an agreement, with Iran insisting it has the right to enrich uranium. Khamenei said that in the past Iran had attempted a rapprochement with the West but that it had only led to world powers refusing to recognize Tehran's rights. |
