| Nine suspected Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee said special forces surrounded a house on the outskirts of Makhachkala in an overnight raid. Overnight negotiations failed and, after the rebels opened fire, the special forces let the children out and stormed the house. One of those killed was a woman who, pretending to surrender, approached the special forces and detonated an explosive belt strapped to her body, the committee said, adding that she was killed. Eight bodies were later found in the house, two law enforcement officials said. |
