2012-08-07
[Daily Excelsior] In a major success, police and Army today bumped off two hardcore Death Eaters of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and apprehended another alive in a three hours long encounter at Leddri forests in Dachchan area of Kishtwar district this morning. One of the slain Death Eaters Aamir Ali Kamaal alias Aamir alias Akram son of Ali Mohammad Kamaal R/o Kitchloo Mohalla, Kishtwar was prime accused in September 7, 2011 blast at Delhi High Court in which 14 persons were killed and scores of others were maimed.

He carried a reward of Rs 20 lakh on his head--10 lakh each from National Investigating Agency (NIA), which has been investigating Delhi High Court blast and Rs 10 lakh from the State Government.

earlier in Kishtwar and handed over to the NIA. Four accused were still on the lam including Junaid Akram Malik and Shakir Hussain alias Chota Hafiz of Kishtwar, Abu Saifullah and Abu Billal, both Paks. While Malik and Hafiz were operating in upper reaches of Kishtwar, whereabouts of the Paks were unknown. Aamir had helped the two Paks execute the blast.

IGP Jammu Dilbagh Singh told news hounds here this afternoon that police and Army had laid a cordon at Leddri forests in Dachchan area, located at the heights of Kishtwar districts last evening after developing specific input about the movement of Aamir along with his two associates.

With the onset of dawn today, a team of Doda police and 10 Rashtriya Rifles established a contact with the Death Eaters at 6 am resulting into heavy exchange of gun fighting that continued for three hours in which two Death Eaters were killed and their third associate was captured.

Mr Singh described the killing of Aamir Ali as a big success of Death Eaters as he was among the prime accused in Delhi High Court blast of September 7, 2011 in which 14 persons were killed and scores of others were maimed.

DIG Doda-Ramban range, Gareeb Dass and SSP Doda Arif Reshu supervised the operation.

The IGP Jammu said Doda and Kishtwar police was hunting the Death Eaters involved in Delhi High Court blast for the past quite sometime and a number of times they had skipped the cordon as the cops wanted to capture the ultras alive to help the NIA workout the blast mystery completely. Even today, he added, police gave enough time to Aamir Ali to surrender but he continued firing after which police retaliated and bumped off the two thugs.

The DIG Doda range identified the slain Death Eaters as Aamir Ali Kamaal code Aamir code Akram son of Ali Mohammad Kamaal R/o Kitchloo Mohalla, Kishtwar and Mohammad Shaffi Hajam code Saqib son of Mohammad Sultan Hajam R/o Bangam Quderna, Marwah, Kishtwar. The thug, who was captured alive, has been identified as Sajjad Ahmed alias Rezwan, a resident of Dachchan, Kishtwar.

All of them were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and were involved in a series of subversive activities. Of three, only Aamir Ali was an accused in Delhi High Court blast.

"The operation was executed meticulously and there were no casualties on police or Army'', Gareeb Dass said, adding that two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, 15 rounds, one Chinese pistol and one magazine were recovered from the site of encounter.

The thug, who was captured alive, was being shifted to a safer location for sustained interrogation to extract clues about four other Death Eaters wanted to the NIA in connection with Delhi High Court blast.

Police have sounded the NIA about the killing of Aamir Ali in the encounter. A team of the NIA was expected to reach Doda and Kishtwar shortly to get details on Aamir's killing and extract clues from captured Hizbul Mujahideen ultra, Rezwan.

Sources said there were three Hizbul Mujahideen thugs, operating in Kishtwar, who were wanted to NIA in Delhi High Court blast. They included Aamir Ali Kamaal (killed today), Junaid Akram Malik and Shakir Hussain alias Chotta Haafiz son of Naseer Ahmad R/o Daji, Palmar, Kishtwar. Malik was also a resident of Kishtwar but his family had shifted to Bhatindi in Jammu.

All three carried a reward of Rs 20 lakh each on their head. The NIA had announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh on each of the three thugs. The State Government had also announced an equal amount making it Rs 60 lakh for three NIA wanted thugs.

three thugs, all residents of Kishtwar last year in connection with the blast. Others were still on the lam and in the absence of more arrests, the NIA had not been able to work out the blast mystery.

Police sources here said Aamir Ali Kamaal had played a major role in Delhi High Court blast.

"It was Aamir Ali, who had made all arrangements for stay and movement of two Pak Death Eaters Abu Billal and Abu Saifullah, both Paks from Kishtwar to New Delhi along with bombs. He had also arranged vehicle and other infrastructure for the two Paks'', sources said, adding the whereabouts of both of them were not known since then.

Abu Saifullah was also instrumental in a powerful blast at Udhampur in which a senior Army officer of Northern Command had a narrow escape. He had triggered blast in a car with a remote control device and escaped. Aamir Ali had given shelter to Saifullah and another Pak Abu Billal and also arranged a joint meeting of top brass of Hizbul Mujahideen in a house at Kishtwar town in which a final touch was given to the blast at Delhi High Court.

Sources said police and Army made all out efforts to capture Aamir Ali alive but he failed to give up and continued to rain bullets on the security personnel, leaving no other option for them but to eliminate him along with his associate.

They added that police would now try to capture alive Junaid Akram Malik and Chotta Hafiz to ensure that the NIA managed to get clues from them to work out the blast mystery completely. They said the arrest of the duo could also give police some clues about two Pak thugs, who had played crucial part in Delhi High Court blast.

Sources said Aamir Ali was an active thug since 2008 and was involved in seven militancy related incidents including the killing of police constable Bashir Ahmad. Hajam had joined militancy in July 20910 while Rezwan was an active thug since 2004 and was involved in 12 militancy related incidents including killings, kidnappings and attacks.

In his chat with news hounds, the IGP Jammu said with the killing of two Death Eaters and arrest of another, 27 Death Eaters were left in Jammu region.

Dilbagh Singh said police have intensified security arrangements for this year's Independence Day as some mischief from across the border was not ruled out in view of detection of tunnel in Samba sector and firing by the Rangers last night in Arnia sector.

He said deployment has been strengthened in border belt while IRP personnel have been inducted in the City. He added that Close Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) have also been activated at sensitive places in Jammu region to keep a vigil on anti-national elements.

So far, 150 CCTVs have been installed while more others would be in place shortly.

This was second major success of Doda-Kishtwar police in past few days. Prior to this, Kishtwar police had helped Mumbai police solved murder mystery of Bollywood starlet Laila Khan and her five family members by arresting the main accused, Parvez Ahmad Tak.

The IGP Jammu said group of five armed Death Eaters was sighted along Indo-Pak border during the Pak firing in Arnia last night.

"Yesterday, there was heavy (Pak) firing in Arnia belt (along Indo-Pak border in Jammu sector). It was reported that a group of five armed persons was sighted (along Indo-Pak border)", Singh said.

"If such an attempt to push in an armed Death Eaters group from across to this side to trigger the act of militancy is successful, it will be dangerous," he said.

"We will take strongest security measures to ensure incident-free and smooth I-day passage," he said.

"August 15 period is very sensitive...Some days back a tunnel from Pakistain was detected in Samba, which is serious issue for security...It is a big tunnel," Mr Singh.

"Keeping in view all these aspects we have reviewed the security in Jammu city and other places and sanitised the officers in this regard," Dilbagh Singh said.

Singh said security along the bordering belts has been tightened.

"We are alert and security along the border and within the Jammu city has been put in place with additional deployment," he said.

"All the entry and exit points along the border have been equipped with additional deployment of force while special check points have also been raised to monitor suspicious movement of vehicles," he said.

Singh said 'damaged' closed circuit cameras are also being repaired to maintain surveillance in the region.

Ohhh my goodness ... we've got Bonnie and Clyde in the forest. I hope they saved some souvenirs. They always look good mounted on the wall of some restaurant - after 50 years have passed :-)
