(Sh.M.Network)-Somalia's parliament elected Prof.Mohamed Osman Jawari as its new speaker on Tuesday with an overwhelming majority vote in Mogadishu.Prof.Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari has received 119 votes, thereby becoming the new speaker of parliament while runner-up Ali Kahlif Galayr won 79 votes following the last round of the election.
Jawari, the elected speaker replaces Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan who is now MP in the new parliament of Somalia.
"Thanks for electing me, and again I ask your full support for maintaining this heavy responsibility," he told Parliament after politicians broke into applause.
Five candidates have run for the post of speaker, including two former prime ministers, Hassan Abshir Farah and Ali Khalif Galayr.
Mohamed Osman Jawari, a former minister under the regime of Siad Barre, is from the Rahanweyn clan from the southern Baidoa region.
