The clash took place between two cut-thoat groups in the tribal region's Mamozai area.
The groups attacked one another using heavy weapons, sources said.
They said the fighting had not stopped and the groups were attacking each other at intervals.
Orakzai is one of seven districts in Pakistain's tribal belt, where Taliban and Al Qaeda-linked beturbanned goons are said to have carved out strongholds used to plot attacks on Pak, Afghan and Western targets.
