He maintained the position for five months under Morsi, who eventually replaced him with Judge Talaat Abdullah after issuing a constitutional declaration making his decisions impervious to judicial challenge. Morsi first relieved Mahmoud of his duties in mid-October, but was forced to reverse the decision after Egypt's High Constitutional Court ruled the move unconstitutional. At the time, Mahmoud insisted on finishing his tenure, criticising Morsi for his decision. |
