USS Pueblo Has Gone Missing (really)
2012-12-11 | |
The ship remained in North Korea, which eventually docked it near Pyongyang, and turned it into a tourist attraction. Visitors can take a tour of the ship, and then watch a 20-minute video officials filmed of the North Korean view of the capture. But now the Pueblo is missing, NKNews.org. reports. A tour company, Koryo Tours, discovered the disappearance after employees returned from a trip. There is evidence the ship was in place on the Taedong River recently. It could be under renovation at the Fatherland Liberation Museum, said NKNews, but they don't know. It would seem that if such a symbolic vessel was going to be moved, the government would send a press release to people who would notice if it went missing. Efforts to repatriate the ship to the United States have failed. In 2000, negotiators offered it during diplomatic talks with then-Secretary of State Madeline Albright, who was visiting. Later, in 2005 and 2007, Sen. Wayne Allard, who represented the ship's namesake county in Colorado, made attempts to bring the Pueblo home. There is still no resolution.

#13 Unlike their missiles... We have a winner! I still don't see why we can't lob a SLCM on a dark and moonless night. SecState Shrillary can make the innocent puppy eyes of plausible deniability and all the missile parts are stamped Made in China. Who us? |

#10 It could be being armed for a suicide run with a nuke. It's not I'm sure, but it's possible. |

#8 Practically speaking, the reason we don't sink it with SLCMs is that the Norks would go ballistic. Yeah, wouldn't want that bunch acting irrational. /snark |

#6 No way. The Norks would never let their prize sink. Practically speaking, the reason we don't sink it with SLCMs is that the Norks would go ballistic. |

#5 Maybe they plan on using it for target practice for their upcoming rocket launch.... |

#4 might it have sank from lack of maintenance? |

#3 Practically speaking, is there any reason why we don't just blow up the dang thing? And no, sanctity of NORK airspace or sovereignty is not a reason. Just a teensy sub-launched cruise missile. Or two, because anything worth blowing up is worth blowing up good. |

#1 The Norks will never give it up. I do wonder where it's gone, though. |
