Short and insightful. Unfortunately, it assumes US victory whilst failing to discuss the "wild card" of Obama limiting the US response to a bloody, grinding stalemate. |

#13 Uncle Phester and Joe are on to it. NKor distracts Uncle Sam while the Chicoms run their Manifest Destiny game against its neighbors. Push will come to shove. |

#12 More ... * TOPIX > [Daily Star] NORTH KOREA'S TRAGEDY IS THAT NO ONE WANTS TO CHANGE THE STATUS QUO. Uh, uh, "WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG"??? Perhaps more accurately, the powers that be know-well that domestic reforms or changes were needed, + needed yesterday, but instead choose to hold out until the very last second. * FREE REPUBLIC > [ZeroHedge] US SECRETLY DEPLOYING [seven] B-1 STRATEGIC BOMBERS [to AAFB, Guam], E-6 "DOOMSDAY" PLANES NEAR NORTH KOREA. Source Artic below. RELATED EARLIER > THE AVIATIONIST = US AMASSING B-1 STRATEGIC BOMBERS NEAR NORTH KOREA, i.e. several or seven to join B-2's already deployed to Guam. * Also from TOPIX > [Examiner] OBAMA'S ABM STRATEGY QUESTIONED. * SAME > NORTH KOREA THREATS CONTRARY TO [Country's] STATE OF WAR READINESS. * ASAHI NEWS AJW >LEFT IN THE DARK: US KEEPS MUM ON COMPACT NUKE BOMB AMID NORTH KOREAN CRISIS. Fusion-boosted Fission Bombs - 1/4 the size than regular + mucho less the amount of required plutonium. *DEFENCE.PK/FORUMS > [Al-Jazeera] WORSE THAN GROUPTHINK: BUDGET DEFECTS ARE THE NEW WMDS. My bad vibes on China-vs-Japan-vs-the-US-Sequester/Debt is alated notteth. MORE ARTICS AGAIN TODAY ON THE MSM-NET ABOUT HOW COSTLY USDOD DEPLOYMENTS TO NE OR EAST ASIA, + ANY "KOREAN WAR II/REGIONAL WAR" SECNARIOS, ETC. IS TO THE DEBT, SEQUESTER-RIDDEN USA VEE THE ON-GOING NOKOR CRISIS. In my lifetime, from POTUS LBJ to Dubya/Bush 43, these "Cost" Artics never appeared until AFTER a Crisis had passed, N-O-T DURING. |

#11 "Nuclear" MUNICH in East Asia + Pacific??? |

#10 "NORKLAND a sacrifical opening pawn for a larger game"... Yuuupp. Iff China refuses to delay or amend its "post-US" "Manifest Destiny", then IMO a Sino-US mil confrontation + conflict in East Asia is all but inevitable - TO AVOID A LIMITED OR FULL-SCALE NUCWAR, EITHER CHINA MAKES CONCESSIONS, OR THE US MAKES CONCESSIONS. Unilateral or Joint, ANY CONCESSIONS IS N-O-T GOING TO BE PRETTY = LIKED BY THE US MAINSTREAM/ELECTORATE ANDOR AMER'S OVERSEAS ALLIES. |

#9 Yep, UncleP, I suspect so. Look at China, not NorK. The world economic problems affect them too. A LOT. |

#8 mind-numbed troops terrified of making a mistake And at this point that might be all it takes. |

#7 ...or is NORKland a sacrificial opening pawn for a larger game...? |

#6 Pudge has to do something, the embassy evacuations is close to the last straw he has to play short of something going boom. My guess is coastal artillery shelling and maybe the missing subs try something. But this is edge dancing which is never pretty when done by amateurs or stupid, mind-numbed troops terrified of making a mistake, and rigidly obedient to ensure the next bowl of rice. I worry about unintended consequences and wonder if the ChiCOms and some 4 button Norks aren't already talking about a fatal car crash? |

#3 All of this may just be the "national emergency" and crisis our Champ is looking for. |

#2 "Third, it shall be the policy of this nation to regard any nuclear missile launched from North Korea against any nation in the Eastern Hemisphere as an attack by China on the United States, requiring a full retaliatory response upon China." This would get Beijing's attention. |

#1 China's test run... I wonder if they will cry salt tears to see South Korea go as an economic competitor. Of course NK would be finished within days but they could take a long Seoul with them. NK has already crossed the threshold to war... or rather has provided the US with a justification for a preemptive attack. A much sounder one than the case for Iraq. They wouldn't have dared with Bush. |
