[Al Ahram] Eight people died and 70 were maimed in Fayoum following festivities between security forces and supporters of former President Mohamed Morsi on Friday, medical sources reported.Some protesters seized an army tank but the army and a group of Fayoum residents managed to retrieve it, an Aswat Masriya eyewitness reported.
The festivities broke out when a pro-Morsi march reached the Sawaqi Square and some young boys hurled stones at it.
Police forces intervened and fired shots in the air and teargas to disperse the protesters.
On the other hand, tens of thousands of the Moslem Brüderbund's and Mursi's supporters marched from various mosques and finally merged into one march that roamed Fayoum's main streets.
The marching demonstrators chanted, "Down with the military rule" and "Islamic state, Islamic state".
