Nork Freighter Seized in Panama May Face $1-Million Fine
2013-08-20
The North Korean freighter that was detained by Panama last month for shipping undeclared military equipment from Cuba could face a fine of up to US$1 million.
I think that's more than those MiG parts are worth...
How about the oily sugar? Surely that is worth something.
AFP reported that fines imposed by the Panamanian authorities range from $10,000 to $100,000 for serious violations, and go as high as 1 million for very serious violations. It added that Panamanian officials have described the North Korean case as a very serious violation.

A group of UN inspectors is currently in Panama to determine whether Pyongyang violated a UN ban on arms shipments.

#4  Dead cold loss for all sides. Ship is likely worthless and made worse by the gross cargo. I see a reef.

I hear it's an excellent fuel additive for rust bucket freighters.

#1  What's the ship worth?
Is it worth paying?
Or is the fine the cost of the ship?
