#5 See also REALTED TOPIX > [US News & World Report] UN HAD NO FOREWARNING OF SAUDI SNUB IN SECURITY COUNCIL. and * SAME > [Times of Israel] FRANCE SUGGESTS REFORMING VETO POWERS ON UNSC, after the Saudi turndown. IMO it will be an uphill battle, as I have to wonder does Paris think RUSSIA + CHINA INDIA + UK, etc. will accept LESS POWERS-N-AUTHORITIES in deference to the New, Smaller Guys = World Powers??? |

#4 Saudi Arabia is still a member of the UN. So how does declining a Security Council seat help them? Or to put it another way, how would accepting a Security Council seat hamper them? I don't think they did this because they're miffed. I'm hoping that someone here with more knowledge of the UN can explain this move by Saudi Arabia. |
