| BNP leader shot dead in Kushtia |

| [Bangla Daily Star] A BNP leader and union parishad chairman was rubbed out by unidentified myrmidons in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia today. The dear departed was identified as Munshi Rashidur Rahman, 45, joint secretary of Kumarkhali upazila unit BNP and chairman of Jagannathpur Union Gay Pareehad. Quoting witnesses, police said a gang of five to six masked criminals riding on cycle of violences swooped on Rashidur at Mahendrapur Bazar around 6:00pm and shot up him, leaving him critically injured. The BNP leader was rushed to Kushtia 250-beded GeneralHospital where doctors declared him dead. He's dead, Jim! Rashidur was elected chairman of the union parishad thrice. Meanwhile, ...back at the fist fight, Jake ducked another roundhouse, then parried with his left, then with his right, finally with his chin... local BNP called a daylong hartal ... a peculiarly Bangla combination of a general strike and a riot, used by both major political groups in lieu of actual governance ... in the district for Monday protesting the killing. District BNP President Syed Mehedi Ahmed Rumi confirmed the shutdown. |
