#2 Lucy is a primary example of a vote-slave on the Plantation. And yes I do mean to use the word slave. She is being forced to vote a certain under pain of not being able to feed, shelter, and care for herself and her children - which is one heck of a motivation to stay. She mentioned, if she started to work and made $10 she would lose $20 on her benefits. the system is designed to keep her enslaved just as much as a set of shackles would. Why even take advantage of any training available. And the caseworkers are motivated, not to get people off, but to sign them up for even more programs (i.e. get a thicker, heavier, shackle and chain). On the other side of the coin there are those who abuse the system. I've seen someone who the state provided daycare for her son (and not cheap daycare either - someplace I can't afford...) so she can work or get training. Instead she spent the time down at the local mall. She did eventually get a job at a dollar-store only to be fired on the first day. What a waste of a life. |
