2014-01-16
A roadside bomb attack in Yala province yesterday killed two policemen and injured two others. The blast hit a four-man teacher-protection unit on two motorbikes, resulting in the death of Pol Corporal Suchat Yangthinnang and Pol Lance Corporal Waesaaree Sapahadaloh. The wounded officers were rushed to the hospital.

In another part of the same province, a paramilitary ranger and a volunteer were also shot and wounded by unknown gunmen as they returned from a teacher-protection foot patrol.

Meanwhile, a 10-kg roadside bomb was detonated in Pattani's Nong Chik district yesterday, aimed at an Army teacher-protection team, but nobody was hurt.

In related news, officials suspect a no-injury grenade and shooting attack at a police station in Yala's Muang district on Monday night was carried out by a group led by alleged terrorist insurgent Apesi Yusoh, an informed source said.
