The men -- Junaid Alam, Armaan and Hassan -- are said to be associated with Ashaab, a group working for Al Qaeda.
Explosive material and a large quantity of ammunition was also recovered from the suspects' possession.
Raja Umar Khattab, in-charge of CID's anti-terrorism cell, said the men were active at the University of Karachi and in private universities across the country's financial capital from where the group recruits religiously-inclined students.
The group, whose chief is currently in
Wazoo, carries out its activities in Karachi, Khattab said, adding that the arrested men did not employ mobile phones in their operations.Khattab said that of the different groups engaged in assassinations in Karachi, the Ashaab group was chiefly involved in sectarian attacks and also in targeting police mobile vans.
He said the arrested suspects were involved in major terrorist activities in the city in the past two years.
