, endorsed Qutbuddin Helal on Saturday to be the next Afghan president, according to a representative of the party.
The decision was taken during a meeting attended by members of the Hezb-e-Islami party, representative Ghairat Baheer told TOLOnews.
"Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan today officially decided and confirmed the candidacy of Qubuddin Helal. We are announcing our support for him and asking all of our allies to respect the decision and support him," he said.
Hekmatyar, the founder of the party who is fighting the US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan, had previously opposed the elections, citing the presence of foreign forces.

he asked his party members earlier this year to participate in the elections.
The party also took recently responsibility for most of the attacks in Afghanistan.
Baheer believes that the party has activity in Afghanistan and said party members agreed over the decision.
