Qoryooleey has today officially been liberated from the control of Al-Shabaab by the co-allied Somali National Army and African Union troops, local media reports.
According to the way described to Radio Shabelle in Mogadishu by the Deputy Governor of the Lower Shabelle region Omar Mohamud Elmi (Arabey), he stated that the troops have not entered the district yet but have a presence on its borders and are preparing themselves to seize control of the district.
Al-Shabaab were recently discussing their tactics in the district until the troops stormed in and regained control of the territory.
The environment is currently reported to be serene with normal movement by the community although the surge increase in the Somali National Army and African Union troops are frightening the locals.
Some interesting pics of the mighty AMISON soldiers on patrol, including what looks to me to be an old T-55 battle tank as part of the force mix. Might be a T-72. |
