| Phillipines, MILF sign historic peace agreement |

| The Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have signed a historic peace agreement, ending 40 years of conflict that has claimed thousands of lives. Guns are set to fall silent in southern Philippines after the five-page Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) was signed in Malacanang, the presidential palace, before a thousand guests including Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and 600 members of the MILF. Malaysia served as the third party facilitator for the peace negotiations. Philippine President Aquino vowed to stop "spoilers" who would try to derail efforts of the Philippine government and the MILF to set up the Bangsamoro political entity. He said, "I will not let peace be snatched from my people again, not now when we have taken the most significant step to achieve it." |
