Cameroun seizes 288 rifles, 35 rocket guns from Boko Haram insurgents

Similarly, 35 locally made Improvised Explosive Devises (IEDs) were also recovered from the bully boyz after what the DHQ described as a fierce encounter between the Camerounin forces and the Boko Haram bully boyz at Abugasse, close to the Chadian border.

The DHQ also said four suspected turbans believed to be jacket wallahs were killed by their own explosives while heading towards an NNPC facility along Maiduguri-Damboa Road.

The suspects were said to be traveling in four explosive laded vehicles which were demobilised by gun shots fired at them by soldiers at a nearby check point, leading tothe kaboom.

The statement added that five soldiers were maimed, civilians he number of civilian casualties was yet to be determined.

A statement by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said other weapons recovered from the bully boyz by the Camerounian authorities included pistols, mortar bombs, sub machine guns and various calibres of ammunition.

The recovery was said to have been made following the arrest of two suspects believed to be major arms suppliers to the Boko Haram turbans in Nigeria.

Over 50 Camerounian passports and a Toyota jeep were also recovered from the suspects.

Olukolade said the seizures were made following a renewed collaboration between Nigeria and the Cameroun in the fight against insurgency in the Northeastern part of Nigeria.

"Apart from arms recovered following disclosure from captured turbans lately, more arms have been captured in the ongoing offensive in different fronts.

"The arrest at a check point of a terrorist driving in a green Peugeot vehicle with registration Number Bauchi 264 AA heading to Maiduguri from Alagarno during the weekend, led to the recovery of 15 AK47 rifles and 12 magazines and various yet-to-be assembled rifles.

the offensive on turbans in various fronts is continuing. The Alagarno area as well as various points of Sambisa forest and suburbs have been witnessing intense operations since Monday.

"Apart from several dead terrorists, 14 vehicles which were either being used for operation or hidden by the turbans in various parts of the forests and theatres have been destroyed.

"Various calibres of weapons and ammunitions were also recovered in the course of fighting and subsequent cordon and search of the areas. Intensive air and ground surveillance are also ongoing in the general area", the statement added.
