| Bomb Kills Family of Nine in Afghanistan |

| [An Nahar] A roadside kaboom has killed nine members of a single family in western Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday, in the latest violence as U.S.-led troops prepare to leave the country after 13 years. The family was travelling in the Shindand district of Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... province late on Tuesday when explosives destroyed their vehicle, Abdul Hameed Noori, the district chief, told Agence La Belle France Presse. "Nine members of the family including two women, five children and two men were killed on the spot," he said. Two people were maimed and taken to a nearby hospital. Sameh Wafa, a provincial front man, confirmed the incident to AFP. Roadside bombs are commonly used by Taliban Death Eaters to target Afghan and foreign forces but often cause injuries to civilians. Attack that kill civilians often go unclaimed and there was no immediate claim of responsibility for Tuesday's deaths. |
