Legislators: ongoing fighting in Baladxawo may put town on 'brink of disaster' |

Legislators from the parliamentary human rights committee called for the battles in Baladxawo to be brought to a standstill after many civilians have been wounded in the fighting and several families have began to evacuate the town. The deputy chairman of the committee Muse Sheikh Omar, elucidated that the clashes in Baladxawo can put the town on the brink of a disaster and displaces the entire population. Mr. Omar called for the sudden halt of the violent confrontations urging on the Somali Federal Government to resolve the issue peacefully, refraining from military interference. âWe are sending a few MPs from our committee to Baladxawo so that we can get an insight as to what the fighting has caused and to assess the needs of the civilians in the town.â He said At least 10 soldiers were killed and more than 30 (including civilians) sustained severe injures yesterday after a battle broke out between Interim Jubba Administration militia fighters against the co-allied forces of the Somali National Army and Ahlusunna Waljamaaca troops. |
