Afghan Forces in Heavy Clashes With Helmand Taliban
2014-06-24
[Tolo News] Officials reported that at least 17 Taliban murderous Moslems, 13 coppers and nine civilians have bit the dust amid heavy festivities between bully boyz and the Afghan cops in southern Helmand

province over the past three days.

An additional five Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and five coppers have suffered injuries.

The festivities began in Sangin and Nawzad districts of the province after hundreds of Taliban snuffies stormed police outposts, Helmand Governor Mohammad Naeem said on Monday. Four outposts fell into bad boy hands in Sangin district.

Governor Naeem said the non-combatants were killed by related Taliban missile attacks.

The festivities are reportedly still ongoing and reinforcements have been deployed to assist the security forces already in the area.

Meanwhile,

Helmand Police Chief Abdul Qayoum Baqizoy claimed that nearly 800 Taliban snuffies stormed the outposts in Sangin district.

"We have informed the Interior Ministry and Defence Ministry to seek support," Baqizoy said. "If they don't send support teams, the Taliban will take control of Sangin district."

More than 300 families are said to have fled Sangin over the past couple days because of the escalating violence.

Self-identified Taliban front man, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, confirmed the flare-up, but claimed more than 12 outposts have been destroyed in Sangin.

in preparation for the coalition's withdraw by the end of this year, Afghan cops have taken on increased responsibility throughout Helmand as well as other restive provinces around the country.
