Two men in Old court on terrorism charges
2014-09-11
[NEWS.SMH.AU] Two men, including the brother of a suspected Australian jacket wallah, are due to appear in court on terrorism-related charges following multiple raids across southeast Queensland.

Omar Succarieh, 31, of Kuraby, and an 21-year-old man from Boronia Heights will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday morning, following a year-long Australian Federal Police investigation that culminated in nine raids in Brisbane and Logan on Wednesday.

Succarieh, 31, is alleged to be the brother of Ahmed Succarieh, an Australian reported to have committed a suicide kaboom in Syria.

Succarieh is accused of providing funds to the terrorist organization Jabhat al-Nusra in Syria and preparing incursions into the country with the intention of engaging in hostile activity.

The 21-year-old man will face charges of preparing incursions into Syria with the intention of engaging in hostile activities and recruiting persons to engage in hostile activities in Syria.

About 180 federal and Queensland police executed search warrants across greater Brisbane on Wednesday, including at the iQraa Islamic Centre in the Logan suburb of Underwood, which has come under fire for promoting Death Eater views.
