U.S.-led Raids on Syria Killed 14 Jihadists, 5 Civilians
2014-09-26
[AnNahar] A series of strikes in Syria overnight by a U.S.-led coalition killed 14 jihadists from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group and five civilians, a monitoring group said on Thursday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the forces of Evil were killed in strikes in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, and the civilians died in raids in northeastern Hasakeh.

The strikes largely targeted oil facilities captured by the Islamic State group (IS), though Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said at least one IS checkpoint was among the targets hit during the night.

Among the civilians killed in Hasakeh was a child, he added.

On Wednesday, Pentagon officials announced that the U.S. and Arab allies had resumed bombing raids that began a day earlier, hitting oil facilities held by IS.

Pentagon front man Rear Admiral John Kirby told CNN that the raids focused on 12 targets he described as "modular oil refineries".

IS forces of Evil have seized a series of oil facilities and fields and are believed to sell oil on the black market to bring in revenue.

The overnight strikes involved aircraft from Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the United Arab Emirates, members of the U.S.-led coalition, Pentagon officials said.

#6  Ah, days when that would have read as 27 civilians and a baby cow named Sugarloaf.

#5  I just wasted 45 minutes working with an icon of 5 bride & groom pairs, pasted transparently onto the canopy area of an F-16.

Not from here.....

#4  The jihadists most likely killed 5 civilians, dragged and laid them out so they could blame the US-led coalition. What we really need is a George Patton? He would probably begin by razing Raqqa to the ground and then move on to Allepo.

#3  Well, since we've accidentally killed civilians, we'd better stop the bombing. Otherwise we're no better than ISIS. /sarcasm

#2  It involves a complicated algorithm that includes factors as who's in the White House, how close it is to elections, poll numbers, whether or not the House of Saud wet their collective robes, if Ayatollah Khamenei has had his shots, etc.

I've never been to the Middle East, so I am a bit mystified as to how exactly you tell a dead jihadi from a dead civilian. Unlike soldiers, they all seem to wear civilian clothes. Are the inhabitants of the ME bar-coded or tattooed in some way as to identify which category they belong to? Is civilian/jihadi determined by the mean distance from the corpse to the nearest weapon? Or is it just the day's mood at whatever Human Rights org is doing the tabulating?
