Call against persecution of minorities
2014-11-06
[Pak Daily Times] The human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
defenders under the auspices Centre for Human Rights Education (CHRE) and Civil Society Network on Wednesday protested in front of the Lahore Press Club against the killing of the Christian husband and wife after they were accused of blasphemy in Kasur District.

They expressed anger and grief over the incident and rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud against the brutal killing of the couple in the name of religion. They demanded that all the culprits involved in this inhumane act should be apprehended and brought to justice.

"This barbaric incident has raised a sense of insecurity among the religious minorities of the country who have continuously been persecuted under the blasphemy law, which has been misused frequently," Civil Society Network President Abdullah Malik said.

He demanded that the judiciary should take suo motu

notice of this incident and make sure that the perpetrators are punished according to the law.

"This is yet another painful story where the human life has been badly degraded in the name of religion," CHRE Director Samson Salamat said.

"We have been continuously highlighting the fact that the misuse of blasphemy law has been evident in dozens of cases, however, our successive governments, politicianship and the state institutions have not been able to formulate any policy or strategy to control the damage and save the lives of the people, especially of the persons belonging to religious minorities," he added.
