The officers, all of whom are paratroopers, speak of new tactics and upgraded weapons used against them since Isis seized the Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... - and some of the radio traffic they listen to from their enemy is in the Chechen or Georgian languages. | |

#9 #4 You are right Mike. Its not a heat seeker. It is however from a TOW. See Practical Military Ordnance Identification By Tom Gersbeck, page 201 figure 8.7. Google books has it online. The helium bottle pictured in the figure is a good match. There is no sign of explosive damage or burns on the bottle from the article. Maybe they didn't arm the missile correctly. Posted by: Bunyip 2014-11-06 07:11 Was just wondering....when exactly did we send Iran TOW's as part of Iran Contra? Mike |

#6 PENALTY UP TO $25,000 AND FIVE YEARS IMPRISONMENT (49 USC 1809). It is a law enforcement case for the FBI and Holder. The FBI will get right on it and soon as Holder gets done shredding and destroying documents after this mid-term election. |

#5 invented by the author (Robert Fisk). He is world renowned as a silly person. Yes, he is, and I missed the byline. Good catch, Bunyip. Enjoy the chew toy, guys. |

#3 The Syrians do not know how this weapon - which appears to have been manufactured as long ago as 1989 - made its way from the US to the hands of their country's Salafist tough guys - but it would not be difficult for the Americans to find out. Its full computer coding reads: DOT-E7694 NRC6400/11109/M1033 79294 ASSY 39317 MFR 54080. A battery tube from another missile fired on the fourth of last month carries an inscription indented in the metal: "132964 Battery thermal MFG DATE 12/90 LOT No (indecipherable numeral then 912 S/N 005959." Um, no. AFAIK, there is no such thing as a "heat seeking" missile that can be fired by guys on the ground, unless we're talking about a Stinger - and from those dates, it's extremely unlikely that a Stinger that old would still be functional. No burn marks or othere explosive trauma on those parts says to me somebody got some random parts together and claimed they're from US weapons. Mike |

#2 That being said, it looks like it would be from a TOW missile. |

#1 The words (High Explosive) in article were invented by the author (Robert Fisk). He is world renowned as a silly person. The "He" in fact stands for Helium. |
