| ISIS bans football in Diyala, considers it 'harmful diversion' |

| [Iraq News] On Tuesday, a local source in Diyala province revealed that the organization of the so-called Islamic state in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), in Hamrin Basin northeast of Baquba, issued a circular to ban its militants from playing football, considering it âa diversion from the spirit of jihadâ. The source said in an interview for IraqiNew.com, âThe leaders of ISIS in Hamrin Basin, especially in the areas of Saadia (60 km north-east of Baquba) and Jalawla (70 km north-east of Baquba), issued a circular yesterday whereby it banned its elements from playing football, considering it as a diversion that is harmful to the spirit of jihad.â The source, who requested anonymity, added, âThe circular also threatened those who do not abide to be whipped and expelled from the organization.â |
