| #1 The article is somewhat misleading as far as Germany is concerned. The letter concerning Russia was signed by leftist and center leftist older establishment types with some older establishment conservatives sprinkled in. PEGIDA isn't about Russia or Ukraine (here's PEGIDA's platform in Google's translation) The vast majority of the letter's signators are in all likelihood diametrically opposed to PEGIDA's agenda. In summary: The letter is an establishment endeavor where a sizable part of the German political class essentially argues in favor of feeding the crocodile while PEGIDA is a grassroots demonstration against islamization that is feared and hated by the establishment. |
