The hole is now too deep. Paying down debt, mathematically impossible.

#11  I agree Barbara. The spending has to stop or at least be severely cut back! Somehow, the damage politicians do to this country has to be limited.

#10  Only one of those that interests me, newc, is STOP SPENDING.

#9  Only 3 ways:

Stop spending
Raise taxes
monetize currency

#8  I believe most rational people realized this would come someday. The only resolution at this point will be repudiation then war or war then repudiation. Take your pick.

#7  Being an engineer, I've always harbored a distrust of mathematicians.

#6  Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky began studying mathematics at Odessa in 1897. However, his career in mathematics was cut short by imprisonment and exile in Siberia.

#4   National Debt Clock. Although interesting, this clock doesn't show the long-term debt obligations. Paying for wars is not such a big item as are the social programs. Gets back to Romney's claim about the 47%.

#3  Politically it is impossible; financially it is not. Just stop spending money on stuff that is not needed. Deregulate and Allow the economy to grow without an open gate border.

Cap the federal GIVERnment at 8% of GDP and revenue at 9%.

#2  Never heard of a mathematician, except Napoleon, in politics.

#1  Its not impossible. Print more money to devalue the debt. But remember the cost (Wiemar Republic Germany or Zimbabwe). I lived through double digit inflation and double digit unemployment under Jimmy Carter. There's a whole generation and then some that have not one clue about the reality of what they are facing when this is resolved.
