13 suspected militants killed in Karachi police operation |

[DAWN] At least 13 suspected holy warriors were killed on Monday after a shootout with police in Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... , DawnNews reported. Malir Police headed by SSP Rao Anwar carried out an operation in a Sohrab Goth locality where the alleged holy warriors were hiding. Officials said the suspects resorted to firing after sensing danger. The police returned fire and after a shoot out, 13 suspected holy warriors were killed. Police claimed the men were affiliated with the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) and Al Qaeda. They also said that some of the men were wearing uniforms of law enforcement agencies. A large cache of arms and ammunition was also seized during the operation. A police official said the holy warriors were preparing to carry out a major terrorist attack in the city. |
