Germany Pegida: Protest leader quits amid Hitler row |
2015-01-22 |
[BBC] The head of Germany's "anti-Islamisation" movement Pegida has quit after disparaging anti-refugee comments and a photo showing him apparently posing as Hitler emerged. Lutz Bachmann apologised for Facebook comments he made in which he reportedly called refugees "animals" and "scumbags". He did not mention the photo of him with Hitler-style hair and moustache. Meanwhile, thousands of people have marched in Leipzig at a Pegida rally. Police were deployed to the streets of the eastern German city to prevent clashes with members of a rival anti-Pegida demonstration. Pegida supporters chanted "We are the people", while their opponents shouted "Get out of here." There were no reports of violence. The rival rallies came as Mr Bachmann apologised for his "ill-considered" remarks. |

#1 Bachmann's photo obviously parodied the character Alfons Hatler portrayed by actor Christoph Maria Herbst in the WiXXer comedy movie series. Thus he did indeed indirectly mock Hitler himself, which is a somewhat islamophobic act as Hitler is quite popular with some Muslims. "Animals" and "scumbags" isn't nice either. The politically correct terms would have included "locusts" ("Heuschrecken"), beasts ("Ihr Juden seid Bestien!"), cowardly pigs, "Jude Jude feiges Schwein!") and of course the islamic combination "apes and pigs." </sarc> For reference: Mainstream center leftists in Germany routinely call unpopular investors "locusts." This generates no outrage. "Ihr Juden seid Bestien!"="You jews are beasts!" and "Jude Jude feiges Schwein!"="Jew jew cowardly pig!" were slogans that were written on placards or chanted during anti-Israel demonstrations by Muslims. There was very little outrage. For more information use google or google images. |
