| Philippine soldier killed in clash with Abu Sayyaf |

| [Gulf Today] A Philippine soldier was killed and four others were injured in a battle with Abu Sayyaf militants on Sulu province, the military reported on Monday. Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc said the clash occurred late on Sunday afternoon in the mountain town of Patikul, a known militant hotbed. He said rangers were conducting pursuit operations when they encountered about 60 heavily-armed insurgents who earlier ambushed and injured two soldiers on Friday. During Friday's encounter, troops killed two Abu Sayyaf members and injured another, according to Cabunoc. |
