RAB catches BCL, BNP leaders with bombs
2015-02-23
[Dhaka Tribune] RAB yesterday detained a Chhatra League
... the student wing of the Bangla Awami League ...
leader and his elder brother, who is a BNP leader,
Ummm? The two political parties at each other's throats?
with bombs from a CNG-run autorickshaw garage in the capital's south Keraniganj but described both as drivers while suing them.

"Nur Hossain, 28, and his brother Kamal Hossain, 40, were held at the garage with four Molotov cocktails and five crude bombs in their possession at midnight, and RAB Senior Warrant Officer Md Borhan Uddin filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act," said Khairul Alam, operation officer of RAB 10.

Our court correspondent reports that the siblings were described as CNG-run autorickshaw drivers in the case statement but Khairul said he was unaware of the political affiliations of the arrestees.

The Dhaka Tribune has talked to Chhatra League's Dhaka district unit General Secretary Monir Hossain, who said Nur is the joint convener of Jinjira union unit of the student wing of the ruling Awami League.

"Nur has been framed and is not involved in making bombs," he claimed.

He also said Kamal is a trader of autorickshaw spare parts.

Convener of BNP's south Keraniganj unit Nazim Uddin Master yesterday told the Dhaka Tribune that Kamal is the ward 4 vice-president of BNP's Jinjira unit.

Neither police nor RAB could provide a satisfactory answer to clear the confusion.

Officer-in-Charge of South Keraniganj cop shoppe Jamal Uddin Mir said he had no idea why RAB had nabbed the two men.

"An investigation is underway," he added.
