UN legislation against blasphemy is a must: Ashrafi
2015-02-27
[Pak Daily Times] Pakistain Ulema Council Central Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi has said that legislation from the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
for the protection of respect of all sacred religions, holy books and prophets is necessary for the global peace.

According to the PUC sources on Thursday, he was leading a delegation which was visiting diplomats of several countries including Russia, Paleostine, Jordan and the United States in Islamabad.

The delegation presented a memorandum on the situation generated after the publication of blasphemous caricatures in the papers of La Belle France and other countries. Ashrafi appealed to the diplomats for playing their role for legislation from the UN against blasphemy of the holy books, prophets and religions as the freedom of speech did not mean to instigate others to killings and riots by insulting other's religions and holy things as it could put the world's peace in danger.

He said that the publication of blasphemous caricatures had damaged the efforts of interfaith dialogue and it was very important to end the insult of the holy prophets, the Holy Koran and other holy books.

Paleostinian, Jordanian and Russian ambassadors assured the delegation that they would inform their countries about the sentiments and feelings of the Moslems and they would play their role in this regard.
